Private: Blue Building, Green Roof

We designed this 6,000 sf common rooftop for Bernard Tschumi's iconic BLUE building in lower Manhattan. The design form is a response to the deconstructivist architecture, and its program juxtaposes culture with environment. Two areas of green-roof frame the occupiable spaces for dining, lounging, sunning, entertaining, performing, and movie projection. Phase one was the selection of furniture and a temporary landscape installation to make the space usable during design development (see Birch Forest). Phases 2, built in collaboration with Town & Gardens in summer 2011, consisted of the tree and green roof plantings and carpentry walkway and stage. The final phase will include a new ramp, mural/movie wall, and custom seating elements.
