Institutional: Scarsdale Middle School

Three middle school courtyards will ultimately be woven together with one bold landscape gesture providing unity, campus identity and a sense of place. The abstracted river-like form expressed by rugged boulders and birch trees flows down from the naturalized hillside through this first courtyard as the 3 rivers that flow through this county. The program for this space was for use as an outdoor learning environment based around the school's mathematics curriculum. Geometric forms, the golden rectangle, and shadow length calculations are now experienced by the students in a new way.
